Gordon is a Psychologist and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (RPTS) with over 24 years of experience in the mental health field. He works with adults, couples, families, and children. Areas in which he has extensive clinical experience and specializes in the following: anxiety and mood disorders, trauma, grief, anger, addictions, stress management, ADHD, oppositional disorders, and childhood abuse/neglect.
So that he can better adapt the therapy to his client’s needs, his orientation to therapy is eclectic. He has trained in and utilized the following therapeutic modalities: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Schema Therapy (a blending of therapies including Cognitive, Gestalt, and Psychodynamic), Grief Counseling, Play Therapy, Couple’s therapy, Mindfulness Approaches, and Family Therapy. He has also been influenced by the Humanistic and Existential orientations.
Though he is well grounded in theory, he considers the therapeutic relationship the most important change agent. He knows that if you, as a client, do not feel cared for or listened to, the most skillful intervention will be for naught. In his many years in this field, he has felt honored to participate in his client’s courageous and sometimes difficult journeys back to health.
He is a compassionate, caring person, who believes everyone has an innate drive for personal growth and wellness. However, sometimes obstacles hinder this natural tendency towards health. Much of his work as a clinician is in helping his clients identify and remove/minimize the negative impact these obstacles have on this natural drive toward self actualization. Perhaps his goals are lofty, but beyond symptom alleviation, he would like to help his clients improve the quality of their lives, and cultivate a sense of peace and joy.
Gordon is a licensed psychologist and a registered play therapist supervisor. He has been a therapist since 1984 and provides counseling services to children, adolescents, and adults.
